Kim Johnsson was born on March 16, 1976 in Malmo, Sweden. Growing up, his first job was picking potatoes in the Swedish countryside. He began playing hockey at the age of six.

Kim Johnsson was drafted by the New York Rangers in the 11th round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. But before being called up to an NHL career, Johnsson played with Malmo of the Swedish League from 1993 to 1999. He appeared in 196 regular season games while scoring 46 points and compiling 181 penalties in minutes. Johnsson’s first year in the NHL was with the New York Rangers. He went on to skate for the Philadelphia Flyers and was signed by the Minnesota Wild on July 1, 2006.

In the defenseman’s career, Johnsson has scored 194 points in 442 games. He won the team award for best defenseman twice for the Philadelphia Flyers. Johnsson has played 75 games this season for the Minnesota Wild, scoring 21 points and logging 64 penalties. When Kim Johnsson is healthy, he is an extremely energetic player. He led the Philadelphia Flyers in average time on ice in the 2003-04 season with an average of 24:27 minutes. His career plus/minus ratio is +28 and he has compiled 226 career penalties in minutes.

Kim Johnsson lives with his wife, Jeanette, and two daughters in Nybostrand, Sweden during the offseason. His teammates like to call him “KJ” or “Kimbo.” His favorite part of hockey is game days, and his favorite road city to visit is New York.
